West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar Accuses Mamata Banerjee of Turning West Bengal into ‘Greater Bangladesh’, Sparks Political Firestorm

Kolkata: West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar launched a fierce attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of transforming the state into “Greater Bangladesh” through what he called dangerous appeasement politics.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Majumdar painted a grim picture of Kolkata in the wake of Eid-ul-Azha celebrations. He claimed the streets of the city resembled scenes from across the Bangladesh border, with reports of blood flowing through drains and even mixing with municipal tap water.

“The streets are red, and even the water from municipal taps is reportedly mixed with blood,” Majumdar wrote, insinuating that the post-festival situation had become hazardous, particularly for Hindu residents.

Though he didn’t name the festival, the comments appeared to target the June 7 Eid-ul-Azha animal sacrifices. The BJP MP referred to Mamata Banerjee as the “appeasement-obsessed Hirak Rani”, alleging that her desperation to retain power has led to alarming religious polarisation.

“When the Chief Minister of the state herself becomes desperate to turn West Bengal into a ‘Greater Bangladesh’… the consequences are deeply alarming,” he added.

Majumdar also accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of fostering an environment where Bengali Hindus feel unsafe in their own land, warning of a “killing field” being created through unchecked communal favoritism.
