Emergency Meet on West Asia Crisis: Why Govt Called All Parties Today?

Amid rising global tensions, the central government has called a crucial all-party meeting on March 25 to discuss the ongoing West Asia crisis and its possible impact on India.

The high-level meeting will be held inside the Parliament building and chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Top Leaders to Review Crisis Situation

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, along with senior officials, will brief political leaders on:

  • Latest developments in West Asia
  • India’s preparedness
  • Possible economic and security challenges

The meeting aims to bring all political parties on one platform during a sensitive global situation.

What Triggered the Crisis?

The crisis began after joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28, escalating tensions across the region.

The situation has raised serious concerns over:

  • Global fuel supply
  • Trade routes
  • Regional stability

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier warned in Parliament that the impact of this conflict could be long-lasting and urged preparedness.

Government Forms Special Monitoring Groups

To tackle the fallout of the crisis, the Centre has already formed multiple groups to monitor:

  • Fuel supply
  • Fertiliser availability
  • Supply chains

The goal is to ensure that essential services remain stable and disruptions are minimised across the country.

States to Play Key Role

The Prime Minister has also highlighted the importance of state governments, especially in supporting:

  • Poor and vulnerable sections
  • Public distribution systems
  • Local supply management

Opposition Questions Government Strategy

The meeting has sparked political reactions, with opposition leaders raising concerns.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the issue should be discussed openly in Parliament instead of a closed-door meeting.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had initially planned to skip the meeting due to prior commitments, though his attendance remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, some Trinamool Congress leaders have also questioned the need for the meeting and may not attend.

Call for Unity Amid Crisis

Leaders from the ruling side have urged all parties to come together, stating that this is a time for national unity given the global situation.

Why This Meeting Is Important

The West Asia crisis is already impacting fuel prices and could affect India’s economy in the coming weeks.

The government is looking to:

  • Build a coordinated national response
  • Take all political parties into confidence
  • Prepare for long-term challenges
