‘We’ll Plant Drugs In Your Pocket’: Viral Video Allegedly Shows Cop Threatening Student Protesters, Mumbai Police Orders Probe

Mumbai Police has ordered an internal inquiry after a video circulating widely on social media allegedly showed a police officer threatening student protesters with fabricated narcotics charges during the ongoing demonstrations over the alleged NEET paper leak. The clip has triggered strong reactions from opposition parties, who have questioned police conduct and demanded accountability.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Akbar Pathan confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to verify the authenticity of the video and determine the circumstances under which the alleged remarks were made.

Alleged Threat Captured On Camera

In the viral video, the officer is purportedly heard warning detained students against participating in future protests. According to the footage, he allegedly says that he would “plant 50 grams of powder” in their pockets if they returned to demonstrations, adding that such a case would destroy their future and make it difficult for them to secure bail.

The video has spread rapidly across social media, with many users expressing concern over the alleged intimidation of protesters.

Congress Questions Police Conduct

The Congress party shared the video online and said that if the recording is found to be genuine, it raises serious concerns about democratic rights and the treatment of peaceful protesters.

The party stated that citizens have the right to voice their concerns and that protests should be addressed through dialogue rather than intimidation or threats.

Harshwardhan Sapkal Calls Incident A Blow To Democracy

Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal also criticised the alleged remarks, accusing authorities of attempting to silence students through fear.

In a post on X, Sapkal alleged that students were being threatened with fabricated drug cases for participating in protests and described such actions as a stain on democracy. He questioned the alleged use of intimidation against young demonstrators demanding accountability over examination irregularities.

Police Say Action Will Follow Verification

Mumbai Police has clarified that no conclusion has been reached regarding the viral clip and that the inquiry will establish whether the video is authentic and identify the officer involved, if necessary.

Officials said any further action would depend on the findings of the investigation.

The controversy comes amid continuing protests in Mumbai and several other cities over the alleged NEET paper leak, with opposition parties and student groups demanding accountability and reforms in the examination system.
