Actor-turned-politician Vijay received a major political boost on Friday after Left parties and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi extended support to his party, significantly strengthening the chances of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam forming the next government in Tamil Nadu.
The support has pushed TVK closer to the crucial majority mark in the 234-member Assembly after the party emerged as the single-largest formation in the recent state elections with 108 seats.
Support Letters Sent to Governor
According to political sources, leaders from the Left camp formally conveyed their backing through communication addressed to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. The move came after internal consultations among alliance partners regarding the post-election situation in the state.
The support from Left parties and VCK is being seen as a turning point in the rapidly evolving government formation process, especially at a time when uncertainty over numbers had created a political deadlock.
TVK’s Numbers Improve After Alliance Outreach
While TVK secured a major electoral breakthrough, the party initially fell short of the majority requirement needed to independently form the government. This led Vijay’s party to open discussions with smaller opposition groups and former allies of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
The combined backing from the Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and VCK has now strengthened TVK’s position ahead of a possible claim to form the government.
Political observers believe the development could significantly alter Tamil Nadu’s post-election equation, especially as speculation over possible rival alliances between the DMK and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam continues to dominate political discussions.
Left Leadership Signals Clear Backing
Speaking in Delhi, CPI(M) general secretary M. A. Baby indicated that efforts were underway to help TVK demonstrate majority support before the Governor.
The statement is being interpreted as a clear signal that the Left bloc has decided to politically align with Vijay’s camp in order to prevent instability and ensure the formation of a government led by the single-largest party.

The latest support marks a dramatic moment in Vijay’s political journey.
