Tensions flared between Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis following the killing of former corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar. Thackeray launched a scathing attack on Fadnavis, labeling him as a “cruel-minded home minister” incapable of protecting citizens. He further accused Fadnavis of being “insane” and compared him to a wolf.
Raising suspicion over Ghosalkar’s murder, Thackeray questioned the circumstances surrounding the case, particularly the alleged suicide of the perpetrator. He highlighted the absence of a revolver license for Ghosalkar and suggested the possibility of foul play, calling for a thorough investigation.
Thackeray’s criticism of Fadnavis escalated as he condemned Fadnavis’ comparison of the deceased to a dog, deeming it heartless and atrocious. He also accused Fadnavis of pressuring Uddhav-BJP Sena members to defect to the BJP, alleging a culture of intimidation within the BJP.
In response, Fadnavis dismissed Thackeray’s remarks as signs of insanity and urged him to seek medical help. He defended the law and order situation in Maharashtra, asserting that recent incidents were isolated cases of personal enmity and would be thoroughly investigated.
The verbal sparring between Thackeray and Fadnavis underscores the heightened political tensions in Maharashtra, with both leaders trading barbs amid calls for presidential rule and demands for early elections in the state.
