In a startling incident that has sent shockwaves across social media, Adv. Rajeev Shukla, a visiting lawyer from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, alleged that he received an adulterated vegetarian meal parcel from Barbeque Nation in Mumbai. The meal, ordered from the upscale Worli outlet, contained a dead rat and some roaches, as per Shukla’s posts on social media.
Shukla, 35, who had come to Mumbai for tourism, ordered the ‘Classic Veg. Meal Box Regular’ priced at approximately Rs 641 on January 8. As a pure vegetarian Brahmin, he started consuming the ‘dal makhani’ in the meal packet only to discover the presence of a dead rat and roaches.
The shocking revelation led to immediate repercussions, as Shukla suffered from food poisoning and had to be admitted to BMC’s BYL Nair Hospital. He spent over three days receiving treatment for the adverse effects of the contaminated meal.
Expressing his outrage, Shukla sent an email to Barbeque Nation, bringing the incident to their attention and expressing his concern over the adulterated food that he had consumed before discovering the shocking contents.
Taking to social media, Shukla claimed that the Nagpada Police Station was not willing to lodge an FIR against Barbeque Nation. In a bid to garner attention and seek justice, he tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah and Piyush Goyal, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, and others in his posts to highlight his plight.
In a series of social media posts, Shukla narrated his harrowing experience, stating, “I wanted to explore Mumbai, and so I did, coming all the way from Prayagraj, but possibly, this might be my last trip. I am a Brahmin and a pure vegetarian, but when my Barbeque Nation order arrived, it gave me the shock of my life. The food contained a dead rat and cockroaches. I suffered food poisoning and got admitted to Nair hospital.”
The incident has raised concerns about food safety and hygiene standards, prompting many on social media to demand a thorough investigation into the matter. Barbeque Nation, a popular restaurant chain frequented by the affluent and celebrities, is likely to face scrutiny over the alleged lapse in food quality control.
