Washington D.C: In a show of unwavering solidarity with India, the United States has reiterated its full support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the aftermath of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 innocent lives earlier this month. US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the full support of the Trump administration,” further emphasizing that the US is in continuous communication with both India and Pakistan regarding the escalating tensions in the region.
Bruce noted that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been in direct contact with both India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. She highlighted that the situation in Kashmir, particularly in light of the attack, remains a significant concern.
“We are monitoring closely. Yesterday, the Secretary spoke with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif,” Bruce said. “As President Donald Trump articulated to Prime Minister Modi last week, the United States stands strong with India against terrorism, and Prime Minister Modi has our full support.”
The deadly assault on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, was attributed to the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba’s (LeT) offshoot, the Resistance Front (TRF). The attack marked the deadliest strike in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack, and it has further deepened the already strained relationship between India and Pakistan.
In response to the attack, India has vowed to deliver a strong retaliation, granting “complete operational freedom” to its armed forces in determining how, when, and where to strike back. The political leadership in India has made it clear that national security and counter-terrorism operations will be prioritized.
Bruce also stressed the US’s ongoing efforts to encourage both nations to find a path toward “long-term peace and regional stability” in South Asia, emphasizing the need for responsible actions from both India and Pakistan.
“The Secretary encouraged both countries to work toward a responsible solution that maintains long-term peace and regional stability in South Asia,” Bruce remarked.
