“Regime Change Would Be ‘Best Thing,” Donald Trump Says as US Sends Second Carrier Toward Iran

President Donald Trump has confirmed that the United States will deploy a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East as tensions with Iran remain high over its nuclear programme. The announcement signals a significant escalation in Washington’s military positioning even as diplomatic negotiations continue.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said the additional naval deployment was necessary in case talks fail to produce results. “In case we don’t make a deal, we’ll need it,” he stated, indicating that the United States is preparing for all possible scenarios. He added, “Tremendous power has arrived, and additional power is going out shortly. Let’s see what happens. Get it settled for once and for all.”

The move comes after the US had already positioned the USS Abraham Lincoln in the region. Now, the USS Gerald R. Ford — considered the world’s largest and most advanced aircraft carrier — is expected to join operations, strengthening American naval presence in strategically sensitive waters.

Trump also made a controversial remark suggesting that a change in Iran’s leadership “might be the best thing that could happen” to the country. Reflecting on decades of strained relations, he said, “For 47 years, they’ve been talking and talking. In the meantime, we’ve lost a lot of lives while they talk.”

The renewed military posture follows ongoing disputes over Iran’s nuclear activities. The US has repeatedly called for strict limits on Tehran’s enrichment programme and has targeted key nuclear sites in the past, including Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. Trump recently held discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding regional security concerns.

Iran, however, has rejected what it describes as excessive demands. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian responded firmly, stating, “We will not yield to excessive demands,” while maintaining that Iran remains engaged “with full determination in dialogue aimed at peace and stability in the region.” He added that longstanding mistrust between Tehran and Western powers continues to hinder meaningful progress in negotiations.

The deployment of a second carrier strike group significantly raises the stakes in an already fragile situation. While Washington insists the move is a precautionary step to ensure deterrence, analysts warn that the concentration of military assets in the region could increase the risk of miscalculation if diplomatic channels collapse.
