Trump Said ‘Surrender,’ Modi Said ‘Yes Sir’: Rahul Gandhi Accuses PM of Yielding in Operation Sindoor Ceasefire

Bhopal: In a scathing critique during a Congress convention in Bhopal on June 3, 2025, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi capitulated to external pressure during the India-Pakistan ceasefire following Operation Sindoor.

Gandhi claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump influenced India’s decision to halt military operations, stating, “Donald Trump called from there and said – Narender… surrender. Here, Narendra Modi followed Trump’s gesture by saying ‘Yes Sir’.”

Drawing a contrast with past leadership, Gandhi highlighted former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s resolute stance during the 1971 crisis, recalling that when the U.S. Seventh Fleet advanced, she firmly asserted, “I will do what I have to do.”

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) responded to these allegations, clarifying that the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan on May 10, 2025, was decided upon through direct contacts between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries.

The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, emphasized that while there were conversations between Indian and U.S. leaders on the evolving military situation, the issue of trade or tariffs did not come up during these discussions.
