Washington DC: Former US President Donald Trump on Tuesday defended his controversial tariff policies, asserting that they not only boosted the American economy but also played a crucial role in preventing international conflicts. Speaking to the media, Trump claimed that without his tariffs, at least four of the seven wars he says he prevented would have escalated.

Highlighting the India-Pakistan situation, Trump said, “If I didn’t have the power of tariffs, you would have at least four of the seven wars raging. If you look at India and Pakistan, they were ready to go at it. Seven planes were shot down… What I said was very effective. Not only did we make hundreds of billions of dollars, but we’re a peacekeeper because of tariffs.”

Trump referred to his administration’s role in resolving what he called the India-Pakistan conflict during Operation Sindoor, a crisis he repeatedly claims his intervention helped de-escalate. He also touched upon the Middle East, stating that his efforts had brought Hamas to the negotiating table and could potentially settle longstanding regional disputes.

“Yesterday could be the settlement in the Middle East. That hasn’t happened for 3,000 years… Hamas has to agree. All of the Arab nations, Muslim nations, have agreed. Israel has agreed. It’s an amazing thing,” Trump said, adding that his knowledge of world leaders like Vladimir Putin would have prevented the Russia-Ukraine war.

Trump reiterated that during his nine months in office, he claimed to have resolved seven international conflicts, emphasizing his view that American tariffs and strategic interventions made the United States a global peacekeeper.
