New Delhi: A strong tremor shook Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday morning, causing panic and briefly disrupting daily life. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake, measuring 4.4 on the Richter Scale, struck at 9:04 AM with its epicenter in Jhajjar, Haryana, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The quake was felt across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram. Many residents reported sudden, intense shaking that lasted for a few seconds, prompting them to evacuate homes, shops, and offices in haste. Videos shared on social media showed ceiling fans, chandeliers, and furniture visibly swaying due to the tremors.
Eyewitnesses described the moment as startling. In Ghaziabad, a man recounted how it felt like someone was physically shaking the shop he was inside. In Delhi, a resident said the vibrations were sharp enough to cause concern, adding that people must remain aware of basic earthquake safety measures.
