Srinagar: Increasing exploitation of our natural resources and pollution are some of the major threats posed to our environment. Without trees, the existence of human life, as well as other species on earth is impossible. Keeping the above environmental issues as a backdrop, the Chak Kigam Army Camp along with Kamraj Forest Division conducted a tree plantation drive and pledge taking ceremony at the Upper Primary School, Chak Kigam recently.
A total of 70 individuals including school students, teachers and officials from Kamraj Forest Division participated in the noble cause aimed at enlarging the importance and necessity of going green. The event also raised awareness about initiatives like saying no to plastic, planting a tree in a year, not to throw garbage into the rivers and nallahs, drive less of cars and use more of bicycle to preserve our mother earth.
Apart from the tree plantation, a pledge ceremony was also conducted for the school students. The pledge was administered to the students by Farooq Ahmad Dar, Block Forest Officer (BFO), Durgmulla.
The event was extremely fruitful as the students were deeply gratified to be part of this noble event and pledged to change their outlook towards the environment.
