A tragic suicide blast rocked the volatile Balochistan province of Pakistan on Friday, claiming the lives of at least 52 individuals and leaving more than 50 others injured. The explosion occurred near the Madina Mosque on Al Falah Road in the Mastung district as worshippers had gathered to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.
The devastating incident unfolded during the observance of Eid Miladun Nabi, a significant religious celebration in Islam. Among the victims was Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nawaz Gashkori, who was on duty at the time of the gathering.
According to City Station House Officer (SHO) Mohammad Javed Lehri, the explosion was a deliberate act of suicide, with the bomber detonating himself adjacent to the DSP’s vehicle. In the aftermath, the wounded were swiftly transported to medical facilities, prompting hospitals to declare a state of emergency to address the crisis.
District Health Officer Mastung, Rashid Muhammad Saeed, confirmed the grim toll of the blast, with at least 52 fatalities and over 50 individuals sustaining injuries. Some of the injured remain in critical condition.
Balochistan’s interim Information Minister, Jan Achakzai, condemned the attack and dispatched rescue teams to Mastung. He highlighted the enemy’s desire to disrupt religious tolerance and peace in Balochistan, emphasizing that the explosion was an intolerable act. Caretaker Chief Minister Ali Mardan Domki vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice, stressing that those who target peaceful processions would face stern consequences. He called on the people to unite against terrorism, reaffirming Islam as a religion of peace and denouncing the assailants as non-Muslims.
In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister Domki declared three days of mourning throughout the province. Interim Interior Minister Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti strongly condemned the blast, underscoring that terrorists have no faith or religion. He assured that all resources were being deployed in the ongoing rescue operation and that the injured would receive the utmost care, reiterating that terrorists did not deserve any concessions.
In the wake of the explosion, Punjab police and Karachi police intensified security measures, with Punjab police ensuring the diligent protection of Friday prayers at mosques across the province, and Karachi police remaining on high alert. Additional Inspector General Khadim Husain Rind directed heightened security for Eid-i-Miladun Nabi processions and Friday prayers, urging vigilance in monitoring unusual activities.
