Delhi: In a surprising incident on Thursday, TMC MP Sugata Roy was spotted smoking near the Makar Dwar outside Parliament, sparking a confrontation with Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Giriraj Singh. The ministers voiced concerns over public health and the dignity of the House.
Roy, however, defended his actions, claiming that MPs are prohibited from smoking inside the Parliament building but can do so in open spaces. “We cannot smoke inside, but open areas are allowed,” he told reporters.
The incident has stirred a debate, as Sugata Roy has previously demanded strict action against smoking inside Parliament. Videos from the scene went viral, showing the Union Ministers confronting Roy. Shekhawat warned, “You are putting public health at risk,” while Singh added, “Today, we saved your dignity, otherwise the situation could have escalated further.”
