TMC Faces Fresh Shock as Rebel MPs Move for Separate Seating in Lok Sabha

Rebel Bloc Strengthens Position in Parliament

Political uncertainty surrounding the Trinamool Congress intensified after a large group of dissident MPs reportedly moved to establish a distinct identity within Parliament. According to sources, several lawmakers have formally approached the Lok Sabha Speaker’s office, signalling a deepening divide inside the party.

The development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing power struggle that has gripped the ruling West Bengal party following recent political setbacks.

Demand for Separate Seating Signals Major Shift

Adding to indications of an organisational split, rebel leaders have reportedly sought separate seating arrangements in the Lok Sabha. The move is being viewed as a symbolic and procedural step that could formalise divisions between the dissident camp and the party’s official leadership.

The demand comes amid growing dissatisfaction among a section of party veterans, who are believed to have differences with the current leadership structure.

Rajya Sabha Exits Add to Pressure

The crisis has also extended to the Upper House, where resignations have continued to emerge in quick succession. Within days, multiple Trinamool Congress members stepped down from the Rajya Sabha, further fuelling speculation about the future direction of the party.

Former Rajya Sabha member Prakash Chik Baraik, after tendering his resignation, indicated that his decision was influenced by prevailing public sentiment in West Bengal. His exit followed earlier resignations by Sushmita Dev and Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, making it a series of high-profile departures within a short span.

Rebel Leadership Dismisses Merger Talk

Despite intense speculation in political circles, rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee has ruled out reports suggesting that the dissident faction is preparing to merge with the Congress.

He maintained that the developments remain an internal matter and insisted that the focus is currently on consolidating support among legislators. Banerjee also claimed that backing for his camp has grown beyond the numbers initially projected, strengthening the faction’s position within the Assembly.

NDA Speculation Gains Momentum

Meanwhile, reports of interactions between rebel leaders and senior BJP figures have triggered fresh discussions about a possible future alignment with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.

However, no official announcement has been made regarding any political realignment. Constitutional provisions under the anti-defection law would require a substantial numerical threshold before any split receives formal recognition.

Uncertainty Looms Over Party’s Future

As resignations mount and rival camps continue to stake competing claims, the Trinamool Congress finds itself facing one of the most challenging phases in its recent history. With parliamentary divisions becoming increasingly visible and political equations rapidly shifting, the coming weeks are expected to play a crucial role in determining the future shape of West Bengal’s ruling party.
