Mumbai: A routine inauguration turned into a storm of accountability on Monday after Chief Minister Eknath Shinde publicly reprimanded Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Sharma for what he called “careless and incomplete” road repair work carried out ahead of his visit.

Shinde had arrived to inaugurate the newly built Balasaheb Thackeray Art Gallery, where civic workers had reportedly spent days cleaning streets, repainting markers and patching potholes to prepare for the high-profile event. But the moment the Chief Minister stepped out of his vehicle near the gallery, he spotted multiple potholes and uneven road stretches the civic body had allegedly attempted to cover up.

A video from the spot—now widely circulated—shows Shinde visibly angry as he confronts Commissioner Sharma. Pointing directly at the damaged section, he says sharply, “You repaired only one side. The other side is still full of potholes. And even where the work is done, the surface is uneven. How is this acceptable?”

The Chief Minister also questioned why the repairs appeared rushed and superficial, despite the region repeatedly facing public complaints over poor roads and rising accident risks.

When Commissioner Sharma tried to explain that repair work had been carried out on several stretches and more was planned, Shinde cut him short, stating that incomplete, patchy work only proves that the civic body lacks seriousness.
