Patna: Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor made his first public appearance after the Bihar Assembly election setback on Tuesday, delivering a sharp and detailed analysis of what powered the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to its massive victory. Dismissing claims that voters were swayed merely by cash transfers, Kishor argued that the unprecedented promise of ₹40,000 crore in government spending was the real political game-changer.
Addressing reporters, Kishor said this was the first time since Independence that a government had announced such a massive financial commitment targeted directly at the people of Bihar — a move that, he said, reshaped the state’s electoral landscape.
“Some people are saying voters sold their votes for ₹10,000. Bihar’s people will not trade their children’s future for a few thousand rupees,” Kishor asserted. “The NDA won because it promised ₹40,000 crore. That is what made the difference.”
Poll analysts had earlier claimed that the Nitish Kumar government’s promise of ₹10,000 financial assistance for women entrepreneurs helped the NDA dominate the electoral map. Kishor, however, expanded on this, revealing that the ruling coalition went far beyond a simple cash transfer.
He said the administration not only promised the ₹10,000 assistance but also assured women of a ₹2 lakh loan, and deployed government officials to every constituency to publicize the scheme. “In every seat, 60,000 to 62,000 people received the ₹10,000 and were told they could get a ₹2 lakh loan when the NDA returned to power,” Kishor said. “Jeevika didis and government staff were put on the ground specifically for this outreach.”
