Mahavikas Aghadi continues its aggressive stance on EVM, Beed, and Parbhani issues for the second consecutive day.

The ‘One Nation, No Election’ bill aims to destroy the democratic system.

Mumbai: The BJP-led alliance, elected through EVMs, is actively working to dismantle the democratic system, alleged Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole. Highlighting recent incidents, he stated that in Parbhani, a police combing operation resulted in severe atrocities against Dalit residents, leading to the death of Somnath Suryawanshi, a young Ambedkarite, due to police assault. In Beed, Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh was brutally murdered. Criticizing the government’s apathy, Patole accused the BJP government of being disconnected from public emotions and concerns.

On the second day of the Winter Session, Mahavikas Aghadi MLAs staged a strong protest outside Vidhan Bhavan, demanding the immediate arrest of Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh’s murderers. Slogans were raised condemning the government for allegedly shielding the perpetrators.

As soon as the Assembly proceedings commenced, Patole raised the issues of police brutality in Parbhani and the death of Somnath Suryawanshi. He emphasized that it is now clear the youth’s death was a result of police violence. Patole questioned whether the combing operation in Parbhani was sanctioned by the state and submitted a motion for a detailed discussion by suspending all other business. Responding to this, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar assured that a discussion on the matter would take place on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media, Nana Patole alleged that EVMs used in the Lok Sabha elections were replaced for the Assembly elections, with new machines brought in from Gujarat. He accused the BJP of manipulating EVMs and pointed out that BJP leaders are part of the boards of companies manufacturing these machines. Patole further criticized the Election Commission for failing to uphold its constitutional role, claiming it operates under BJP influence.

He added that the ‘One Nation, No Election’ bill reflects the RSS’s agenda to undermine democracy. “The BJP’s actions clearly reveal their intention to systematically eliminate the democratic system,” Patole remarked.
