Nagpur: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday delivered a strong message of social unity, urging citizens to rise above divisions of caste, language, region and economic status. Addressing a large Hindu Sammelan in Sonpairi village of Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district, Bhagwat said true national harmony can only be achieved when discrimination is removed from people’s minds.

Emphasising an inclusive vision of India, Bhagwat said the country must be seen as a shared space for all its people. He stressed that no individual should feel excluded from society on the basis of identity or background. According to him, unity is not just a slogan but a way of thinking that needs to reflect in everyday behaviour.

The RSS chief underlined that community resources such as temples, water sources, cremation grounds and public facilities should be equally accessible to all Hindus. He said social harmony, or samajik samrasta, begins when people stop differentiating between “us” and “them” and instead treat everyone as part of one family.

Bhagwat also highlighted the weakening of family bonds in modern life and linked it to rising loneliness. He encouraged families to spend quality time together at least once a week through shared meals, prayers and open conversations, which he described as mangal samvad. Such interaction, he said, can prevent isolation and unhealthy habits.

Touching upon environmental and civic responsibility, Bhagwat called for individual action to address issues like water scarcity and climate change. He urged people to conserve water, adopt rainwater harvesting, reduce plastic use and plant trees. He also advocated respect for the Constitution, civic discipline, use of mother tongues at home and support for locally made products.
