Initiative aims to strengthen treatment outcomes and support Sindhudurg’s TB-free campaign
Sindhudurg: Sindhudurg Guardian Minister Nitesh Rane has taken responsibility for providing nutritional support to 125 tuberculosis patients in the district for six months, as part of efforts to strengthen the campaign to make Sindhudurg TB-free. The initiative is aligned with the national TB elimination campaign and focuses on complementing medical treatment with sustained nutritional assistance for patients undergoing therapy. Rane has committed to ensuring that all 125 beneficiaries receive nutritional support throughout the six-month period.
Adequate nutrition, particularly a protein-rich diet, plays an important supportive role in tuberculosis treatment and recovery. Patients from economically weaker backgrounds may struggle to maintain the recommended diet, potentially affecting their overall health during treatment. Taking this into account, Rane has decided to extend nutritional assistance directly to the selected patients as part of the district’s broader TB-control efforts.
Nutritional Kits Distributed
Nutritional food kits were distributed to the beneficiaries at a programme organised on Independence Day. Those present included MLA Deepak Kesarkar, MLA Nilesh Rane, District Collector Trupti Dhodmise, Zilla Parishad President Pramod Kamat, Chief Executive Officer Ravindra Khebudkar, District Health Officer Dr Sai Dhuri, District Surgeon Dr Shripad Patil, the District Tuberculosis Officer and officials and staff of the Health Department.
Private Medical Practitioners Felicitated
Private medical practitioners who contributed to the implementation of the TB-control programme were also felicitated during the event. Dr Sanjay Kesare, Dr Rajendra Patade, Dr Prashant Kolte, Dr G.T. Rane, Dr Vidyadhar Tayshete, Dr Milind Narvekar and representatives of the Chemists’ Association were honoured with mementoes for their contribution. Their work in identifying TB patients, facilitating treatment, counselling patients and encouraging adherence to prescribed therapy was acknowledged.
The Health Department expressed confidence that coordinated efforts involving the government, public health system, private practitioners and civil society would help Sindhudurg make further progress towards eliminating tuberculosis.
