Thane Road Repairs Deadline Set Before Monsoon, May-End Target Fixed

With the monsoon season fast approaching, authorities in Thane district have promised residents smoother and safer roads before the first heavy showers arrive. The assurance follows firm instructions issued by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a recent District Planning Committee review meeting.

Clear Deadline for Road Repairs

During the high-level meeting, Shinde reportedly directed all departments to treat pre-monsoon works as urgent and non-negotiable. Officials confirmed that road resurfacing, pothole filling, and asphalt patchwork must be completed by the end of May.

Civic bodies have been instructed to conduct detailed road inspections and fast-track tender processes where required. The administration has warned that delays or negligence will invite strict accountability.

Emergency Teams on High Alert

The Deputy Chief Minister stressed the need for close coordination among the district collector’s office, municipal corporations, police authorities, and disaster management teams. The focus is to ensure quick action in case of waterlogging, tree falls, traffic congestion, or any rain-related disruption.

Officials said control rooms will remain operational during heavy rainfall days, and rapid response teams will be deployed in flood-prone pockets. The aim is to avoid the usual chaos witnessed during the first spell of rain.

Authorities have also been directed to identify and monitor dilapidated buildings, especially those undergoing cluster redevelopment. Structural audits are being reviewed to prevent accidents during intense rainfall.

Meanwhile, the health department has been put on alert to prevent seasonal disease outbreaks. Special focus will be given to rural areas, anganwadis, schools, and primary health centres to control waterborne and mosquito-borne illnesses.

Agriculture Push Alongside Monsoon Planning

Beyond infrastructure, the meeting also reviewed steps to strengthen the district’s agricultural sector. Promoting organic farming and ensuring timely availability of organic manure were highlighted as key priorities.

Officials have been tasked with encouraging innovative farming techniques and supporting pasture development to improve farmers’ incomes.

With firm timelines and clear instructions in place, the district administration has signalled that this year’s monsoon preparedness will be closely supervised. Authorities say there will be “zero tolerance” for lapses that inconvenience citizens.
