Srinagar: A firing incident rocked Jammu & Kashmir’s Kathua district on Thursday after terrorists were spotted in the area, prompting immediate action by security forces. The Jammu & Kashmir Police swiftly cordoned off the area, ensuring that no escape routes were left open for the suspected militants.
This latest security threat follows an earlier firing incident on March 23 in Hiranagar, Kathua, where J-K Police and troops of the Rising Star Corps of the Indian Army launched an intelligence-based joint operation.
The Indian Army’s Rising Star Corps, in a post on X, confirmed the counter-terror operation, stating, “Based on Intelligence Input regarding presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation has been launched by @JmuKmrPolice & troops of #RisingStar Corps on 23 Mar 25 in general area Saniyal #Hiranagar. Operations in Progress.”
Meanwhile, security forces remain on high alert across Jammu & Kashmir. On Wednesday, the J-K Police carried out extensive searches in Anantnag, targeting locations linked to banned terror outfits. These raids come amid rising concerns over terrorist resurgence in the region.
In a major breakthrough on Tuesday, security forces, including the Special Operations Group (SOG) Anantnag, 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and CRPF, busted a terrorist hideout in the remote Sanglan forest area under Police Station Uttersoo.
SSP Anantnag GV Sundeep, shedding light on the operation, revealed, “We received a specific input. We formed a joint team with the CRPF to neutralize the movement of a terrorist presence in Chitragul. We have busted a terrorist hideout, recovered a lot of arms and ammunition, and an investigation is underway. From this hideout, logistical support was being provided to terrorists.”
