Over 500 Nepali students were reportedly asked to vacate the campus of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar following protests by foreign students over the tragic death of a Nepali student on February 16. The student, a third-year B.Tech major, died by suicide in her hostel room, and it is suspected that a strained relationship with a male student from the university may have contributed to her tragic decision.

As tensions escalated, KIIT authorities acted swiftly to maintain control, issuing a notice declaring that “The University is closed until further notice for all the International students from Nepal.” The affected students were instructed to leave the university premises immediately.

Reports indicate that the Nepali students were transported to Cuttack Railway Station, located approximately 30 kilometers from the campus. However, some students, including female students, were left stranded at the station due to a lack of tickets for their journey home.
