Patna: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain on Friday dismissed RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s recent letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the caste census, claiming the move reflects “frustration and disappointment” after the issue, according to him, slipped out of Tejashwi’s control.

Reacting sharply to Yadav’s public outreach to the Prime Minister, Hussain said, “Tejashwi Yadav is frustrated and disappointed. The issue has slipped out of his hands. He is now resorting to writing letters to the Prime Minister. But what difference will his letter make?”

Hussain further asserted that the BJP-led Centre’s decision on the caste-based census has been met with overwhelming approval across the country. “There is a wave of happiness across the country over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s masterstroke decision on caste-based census,” he added.

Tejashwi Yadav, a vocal advocate of the caste survey and a key figure in Bihar politics, recently urged PM Modi to expedite a nationwide caste census, arguing it is essential for social justice and effective policymaking. His party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has been at the forefront of the demand, positioning itself as a champion of backward classes.

However, BJP leaders have increasingly taken credit for moving the issue forward at the national level, framing the Centre’s decision as a game-changer in addressing socio-economic disparities.
