New Delhi: A day after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) passed a resolution urging the Centre to punish those behind the brutal killing of 26 civilians in Pahalgam, senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari on Saturday called for decisive action against Pakistan-backed terrorism and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making political remarks amid a national crisis.

Speaking to news agency, Tiwari said, “The Congress party is fully standing with the government. We are consistently demanding strict action against the terrorists who mercilessly killed our 26 innocent people. Alongside that, Pakistan, which has always sponsored terrorism, should also face consequences.”

He expressed anguish over the delay in delivering justice and the lack of security that led to the tragedy. Referring to his recent visit to Kanpur to meet the widow of a victim, Tiwari said, “Twelve days have passed since then. We are waiting for justice, especially after meeting the widow from Kanpur, whose husband was murdered in front of her due to lack of security. Like many fellow citizens, we await accountability for such cowardice.”

Tiwari also slammed the Prime Minister’s recent comments in Kerala, where PM Modi had said the INDI alliance would “lose sleep.” Responding sharply, Tiwari said, “When the whole country is demanding action against terrorism, the Prime Minister is making political jibes. My heart is hurt. The country expected different conduct from its Prime Minister, especially during such a crisis.”

On Friday, the CWC unanimously passed a resolution demanding that the government take “immediate steps to punish the perpetrators of the Pahalgam massacre” and “hold Pakistan accountable for its continued support to cross-border terrorism.”

Commenting on the ongoing debate around caste census, Tiwari also responded to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s letter to PM Modi. He reiterated Congress’ position, aligning it with the views of Rahul Gandhi. “Rahul Gandhi Ji has a very clear stance that this should be implemented with full commitment within a specific time frame. Any existing caps should be discussed and resolved through consensus in Parliament. The Backward Classes who have been left behind should benefit from concrete action,” he said.

With the opposition uniting on critical national issues like terrorism and caste census, Tiwari’s remarks reflect a broader push to corner the government on both security and social justice fronts—while maintaining a stance of bipartisan unity on matters of national interest.
