A 34-year-old tech professional from Uttar Pradesh tragically ended his life in Bengaluru, leaving behind a chilling 24-page suicide note that accused his estranged wife and her family of ongoing harassment. Atul Subhash, who worked at a private firm in the city, was found hanging in his residence in the Manjunath Layout area.
According to the police, Subhash’s emotional and distressing note, which consisted of four handwritten pages and 20 typed pages, begins with the words “Justice is Due.” In the note, he leveled serious accusations against his wife, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and uncle-in-law, claiming that they had subjected him to severe harassment throughout his troubled marriage. Subhash also made a pointed reference to his four-year-old son, calling the child “innocent” and accusing his wife and her family of using him as a means of extorting maintenance payments.
The note provided a detailed account of Subhash’s bitter experiences, including the legal battles he was fighting in an Uttar Pradesh family court. According to Subhash, the cases filed by his wife and her family against him included shocking allegations of murder and unnatural sex, as well as an exorbitant demand of Rs 2 lakh per month in maintenance payments.
In his final moments, Subhash seemed to methodically prepare for his death, leaving crucial details—such as information about the note, vehicle keys, and a list of tasks he had completed and still needed to finish—on a cupboard. He also hung a placard in his home that read, “Justice is due,” underlining the emotional and psychological toll that the situation had taken on him.
Disturbingly, Subhash had shared his 24-page note with multiple recipients, including a WhatsApp group of an NGO he was associated with, and even sent it via email. He also recorded a video, which has since gone viral on social media, shedding light on his troubled mental state leading up to the tragedy.
Following the incident, Subhash’s family has filed a formal complaint, prompting Bengaluru police to register a case against his wife and her family members. According to the complaint, Subhash’s brother claimed that the wife and her relatives had fabricated false charges against him and demanded a settlement of Rs 3 crore to resolve the legal disputes.
The case has drawn widespread attention to the alarming issue of marital harassment and legal abuse, as well as the severe impact it can have on mental health. Authorities are now investigating the matter, with many calling for justice for Subhash and his grieving family.
