Swarnim Vijay Diwas celebrations held at Vilgam

Srinagar: Vijay Diwas is celebrated on December 16 every year to commemorate the stellar victory of Indian armed forces over Pakistan in the 1971 war, which witnessed the surrender of 93,000 Pakistani Military Soldiers. On this day, India as a nation pays homage to all the soldiers who defended the nation.

As part of the nationwide celebrations, Vilgam Battalion also conducted “Celebration of Swarnim Vijay Diwas” to honour war veterans of 1971. The event was witnessed by a total of 40 persons including 20 ESMs and 3 Veer Naris.

Remembering the valour and supreme sacrifice of our brave soldiers, War veterans Havildar (retd) Saifuddin Bhadana and Havildar (retd) Gulam Hassan shared their past experiences of bravery and brotherhood while defending the nation as part of 1971 War. Both were among first few locals from Kashmir who had joined armed forces.

To pay homage to our brave soldiers a wreath was laid by veterans of 1971 War at the War Memorial located in Vilgam. The event was culminated by felicitation of war veterans and veer naris by BDC Azad Mir and Ezaz Ahmed, Market President, Tarathpora.
