As the battle for Lok Sabha seats intensifies in Pune district, the political arena is abuzz with activity. While candidates for three constituencies have been finalized, the suspense looms over the Maval seat, held by the Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who is yet to unveil their nominee. With discussions ongoing with coalition partners BJP and NCP over seat-sharing, the party is anticipated to release its list on Tuesday.
“The chief minister has told me that it will be announced tomorrow,” said sitting MP Shrirang Barne to Indian Express, a key figure in the Shinde-led Sena, expressing optimism about the impending announcement.
The NCP, under the leadership of Ajit Pawar, and the BJP are both firm on their stance to contest the Maval seat, leaving the Shiv Sena in a quandary regarding its candidate selection.
Sitting MP Shrirang Barne, a key figure in the Shinde-led Sena, expressed optimism about the impending announcement but noted Chief Minister Shinde’s silence on his inclusion in the list. Nevertheless, Barne remains confident in his renomination and has already initiated campaign activities.
While the NCP vocalizes its demand for the Maval seat, urging Barne to justify his tenure, the BJP’s dissatisfaction with his approach adds complexity to the situation, citing inadequate consultation on developmental projects.
Barne, however, downplays opposition to his candidacy, asserting the rights of parties to stake their claims. His journey from Congress to Shiv Sena and consecutive victories in Maval reflect his political prowess, notably his significant win in the 2019 polls against Ajit Pawar’s son, despite familial efforts to influence the constituency.
Amidst the uncertainties, the Maval Lok Sabha seat emerges as a battleground of political maneuvering, underscoring the intricate dynamics within the coalition and the quest for supremacy in the upcoming polls.
