In a significant political development, Congress MLA Raju Parve from the Umred constituency tendered his resignation from the party and officially joined the Shiv Sena under the leadership of Eknath Shinde in Mumbai on Sunday. Reports suggest that Parve is likely to be nominated by Shiv Sena to contest from the reserved Ramtek constituency, pitting him against Congress candidate Rashmi Barve.

The Ramtek constituency is scheduled to go to polls in the first phase on April 19.

Parve’s induction into the Shiv Sena took place at ‘Varsha,’ the official residence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, in the presence of Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar. Parve, who emerged victorious from the Umred seat in Nagpur district on a Congress ticket during the 2019 assembly elections, now marks a significant shift in his political allegiance.

Interestingly, the Ramtek Lok Sabha constituency has become a focal point of contention between the Shiv Sena, led by Shinde, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming 2024 polls. This constituency, nestled in Nagpur district, has been historically contested by Shiv Sena (undivided) and has seen victories for the party in the 1999, 2004, 2014, and 2019 elections.
