Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) MP Supriya Sule on Saturday raised concerns over the timing of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, stating that while such an exercise is necessary, it should not be conducted in haste, especially close to elections.
Speaking on the issue, Sule made it clear that her party does not oppose the revision of voter lists in principle. However, she questioned why the process is being rushed when elections are approaching. She pointed out that electoral activities usually involve weeks of discussions, consultations, and public engagement, and a hurried revision could create confusion among voters.
Sule argued that if the SIR is required, it should be implemented across the country in a structured, transparent, and systematic manner rather than being carried out abruptly. According to her, adequate time must be given to ensure that no eligible voter is excluded and that the exercise maintains public trust in the electoral system.
