Mumbai: Maharashtra Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has detailed the objectives of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, stressing that the exercise ensures voter lists remain accurate and reliable.
Speaking on the initiative, Bawankule said, “The SIR is meant to remove duplicate names, names of infiltrators, and names of people not residing in the area. It ensures that electoral rolls are accurate by correcting multiple or incorrect entries. This is the work of the Election Commission, and any wrong entries will be removed.”
The minister highlighted that the revision process is crucial for preventing errors in the voter list, maintaining transparency, and safeguarding free and fair elections. Officials noted that the SIR also helps remove entries of voters who may have migrated or are no longer eligible to vote in their registered constituencies.
