Nationalist Congress Party MP Supriya Sule has raised serious concerns over an alleged shortage of LPG cylinders across Maharashtra and several other parts of the country. She questioned why both the central and state governments have not openly acknowledged the issue, saying the situation is already affecting households, restaurants, small businesses and local industries.
Speaking to the media after visiting Pune and nearby regions, Sule said the shortage of commercial gas cylinders has disrupted the daily functioning of several establishments that depend heavily on LPG for their operations.
Businesses and Industries Facing Severe Impact
According to Sule, multiple small industries and manufacturing units in Pune district are already struggling due to the shortage. She cited the example of units in the Dhaari area that manufacture polyas and supply them to companies in Hinjewadi.
She said nearly half of their production has slowed down because of limited availability of gas cylinders. Business owners have reportedly told her that delays in gas supply are affecting production schedules and financial stability.
The MP warned that if the situation continues, many small industries could face deeper financial losses and may be forced to suspend operations temporarily.
Restaurants and Small Enterprises Hit Hard
Sule also pointed out that small enterprises and eateries in Baramati are facing serious difficulties due to the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders. Many restaurant owners and small food businesses have reportedly shut down temporarily as they are unable to secure a steady gas supply.
She said food businesses that depend entirely on LPG cylinders for cooking have been left with no option but to reduce operations or close their establishments until the supply situation improves.
Workforce Cuts in Several Towns
The impact of the shortage has also reached industrial towns such as Daund and Indapur. According to Sule, several industries in these areas have reduced their workforce as operations slowed due to fuel constraints.
She warned that continued disruptions in LPG supply could result in job losses and further economic strain on workers who depend on these industries for their livelihood.
Households and Home-Based Businesses Struggling
Apart from businesses, the shortage is also affecting ordinary households and people running small home-based food businesses. Sule said many residents are struggling to obtain cylinders and have been forced to wait in long queues.
The MP noted that the problem is not limited to a single district. Reports of shortages have emerged from several cities across Maharashtra including Baramati, Jalgaon, Nagpur, Pune, Nashik and Mumbai.
Call for Transparency and All-Party Meeting
Sule said the issue has created confusion among citizens because ground reports appear to contradict official statements about adequate supply levels.
She stressed that the crisis should not be treated as a political issue and called for collective action to resolve it. Sule urged the central government to convene an all-party meeting so leaders across political parties can discuss the situation and find a solution.
She also questioned why authorities have not yet presented a clear action plan if supply constraints exist.
The NCP MP emphasised that transparency from the government is essential at a time when households, small businesses and workers across Maharashtra are facing uncertainty due to disruptions in LPG supply.

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and extremely broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
