Supriya Sule Gifts PM Modi a Paithani Stole on National Handloom Day, Urges Support for Maharashtra Weavers

New Delhi: In a gesture symbolizing cultural pride and political diplomacy, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MP Supriya Sule met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of National Handloom Day and presented him with a Paithani stole, a renowned handloom textile crafted by the skilled weavers of Maharashtra.

Calling it a “gift of pride,” Sule took to social media to thank the Prime Minister for his time and appreciation.

“Thank you, Hon. Prime Minister @narendramodi ji, for giving your valuable time on National Handloom Day & graciously accepting our gift of pride – the iconic Paithani stole from the talented weavers of Maharashtra,” she posted.

During the meeting, Sule also discussed pressing issues affecting Maharashtra’s rural and artisanal communities, especially banana fibre weavers. She urged the Prime Minister to consider policy-level interventions to empower artisans, increase their income, and scale their local businesses into sustainable ventures.

In a rare moment of warmth in today’s polarized politics, PM Modi inquired about the health of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, reflecting a cordial and respectful tone during the meeting.

This isn’t the first time Sule has acknowledged the Prime Minister’s leadership. During a recent discussion on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, she had publicly praised Modi for assigning the leadership of an international parliamentary delegation to the Opposition.

Recalling the moment, Sule said Union Minister Kiren Rijiju told her: “Supriya, you have to give 10 days for the country.” She led a delegation that included BJP’s Anurag Thakur and Congress veteran Anand Sharma. Sharing her experience from the global tour, Sule added:

“Wherever we went, people said, ‘You’ve come from the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Narendra Modi.’ India’s image is strong globally, and our neutral stance during Operation Sindoor earned international respect.”
