New Delhi: Shiv Sena member of Parliament Dr Shrikant Shinde has accused the Centre of giving a step-motherly treatment to Maharashtra in the Covid-19 vaccination drive.
Sena MP from Kalyan said Maharashtra Government has taken strict measures to mitigate the Covid crisis by setting up jumbo centres. He said the World Health Organization (WHO) and Washington Post had lauded the efforts of the Maharashtra Government to control Covid cases. However, the Centre has adopted a discriminatory stand.
Participating in the discussion on demands for grants on the ministry of health and family welfare 2021-22 in Lok Sabha, Dr Shinde said the Centre has not increased the health budget by 137 per cent but has instead brought it down by Rs. 71,000 crores.

He said the Maharashtra Government laid stress on testing, contact tracing of persons and also created jumbo Covid facilities in a short duration to treat patients. He said these steps were well appreciated by the WHO as well as by the Washington Post.
He said, Maharashtra’s recovery rate is 91 per cent and the state has conducted one crore tests. He said 33 per cent of people have been vaccinated in the state, which he claimed was more than Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
The MP said state health minister Rajesh Tope has urged the Centre to provide 2.20 crore doses of vaccines which can help in vaccinating 5 lakh people daily. Dr Shinde said this will help in containing the spread of the Coronavirus. He further said till now the state has received 69 lakh doses as against the need of 2.84 crore doses.
The member of the Parliament of Kalyan Lok Sabha Constituency also said that the state government has demanded 209 vaccination centres against 158 approved by the Centre. He said, if the Centre gives permission then the vaccination drive can be expedited in the state.
