The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has declared a series of nationwide programs demanding justice for farmers and condemning the recent repression faced by them. The SKM’s demands include the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, and state HM Anil Vij. They demand the lodging of FIRs under section 302 of IPC against them and a judicial inquiry by a Supreme Court judge into the murder of farmers and damage to tractors.
Key Demands and Actions by SKM:
- Resignation and FIRs: SKM demands the resignation of key officials involved in the repression and seeks FIRs against them. They demand justice for the murdered farmers and compensation for the damaged tractors.
- Observance of Black Day: February 23, 2024, is declared as a Black Day/Akrosh Diwas, marked by effigy burnings, torchlight processions, and protest demonstrations to denounce repression.
- Quit WTO Day: On February 26, farmers will observe Quit WTO Day to protest against detrimental government policies affecting farmers’ interests.
- Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat: A massive Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat is scheduled for March 14, 2024, at Ramlila Ground, New Delhi, to intensify the struggle.
Formation of Committees:
- SKM has formed a six-member committee to coordinate with former SKM member organizations and develop unity to intensify the farmers’ struggle.
Solidarity and Mobilization:
- SKM urges all sections of society, including workers, students, youth, women, and cultural activists, to support and participate in the protests.
- Preceding the rally in Delhi, SKM state units will organize padayatras and rallies in state capitals, demanding an end to repression and supporting farmers’ demands.
GB Meeting and Nationwide Representation:
- The SKM’s General Body meeting convened at Kisan Bhawan witnessed over 100 member representatives from various states, showcasing nationwide representation and solidarity.
