Mumbai: Political turmoil continues within the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) after its dismal performance in the recent Assembly elections. Reports suggest that six MPs from the faction are in contact with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s camp and may soon switch sides as part of a strategic political maneuver dubbed ‘Operation Tiger.’

For the past few days, speculation has been rife in Maharashtra’s political circles about mass defections from the Thackeray camp and the Congress to the ruling Shinde-BJP alliance. According to sources, preparations for this transition are in the final stages, and the MPs could formally shift loyalties before the upcoming Parliament session.

If successful, this move would leave Uddhav Thackeray with just three out of nine MPs, significantly weakening his political grip. With the BJP’s backing, the Mahayuti government is already in a strong position, and this defection would further consolidate its dominance in the state.

Many MPs within the Thackeray camp fear political irrelevance if they continue opposing the ruling alliance. A key concern is the lack of access to developmental funds, which may become difficult outside the government. With the BJP-led NDA ruling both at the state and central levels, aligning with Shinde’s Shiv Sena is seen as a strategic and politically advantageous move.

Eknath Shinde’s faction has already claimed the Shiv Sena party name and symbol, leaving Uddhav Thackeray with limited resources to retain his influence. With this potential defection, the political crisis in Maharashtra is expected to intensify further.
