In a troubling development, a 30-year-old unmarried woman has filed a harrowing complaint accusing Sajjan Jindal, the esteemed chairman of the JSW group, of rape. The woman lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the BKC police station, alleging that the incident transpired within the penthouse atop JSW’s corporate building at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), reported by FPJ.
The victim recounted in her statement to the police that on January 24, 2022, Jindal purportedly led her to the penthouse bathroom, where he allegedly attempted to disrobe her despite her insistence on maintaining physical boundaries until marriage. She claimed that he engaged in unwelcome physical acts, including a “deep kiss,” removing her top, fondling, kissing her chest and stomach, and engaging in oral sex.
Their acquaintance reportedly began when the victim visited Dubai, where her brother resided as a real estate consultant, for an IPL match on October 8, 2021. Subsequent interactions led to meetings in Jaipur and Mumbai, during which Jindal allegedly professed romantic inclinations, shared personal details, and made promises of material gifts and a lavish lifestyle.
The woman asserted that she refrained from approaching the authorities initially due to fears of reprisal from Jindal, considering his influential status. She mentioned feeling traumatized but eventually found the courage to file a police complaint, disregarding purported pressure and bribery attempts to retract the FIR.
The FIR, registered on December 13, 2023, encompasses severe charges under the Indian Penal Code, including sections 376 (punishment for rape), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
The police have initiated an investigation into these grave allegations, marking a significant moment in addressing the allegations against the prominent industrialist. The case draws attention to the complexities of power dynamics and the challenges faced by survivors of sexual assault in seeking justice against influential figures.
