Maharashtra Minister Vows Justice in Attempted Vehicular Assault Case Involving Bureaucrat’s Son

The attempted vehicular assault case involving a senior bureaucrat’s son in Thane district, Maharashtra, has sparked intense reactions, with Maharashtra Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar assuring stringent action against the accused, regardless of their background or affiliations.

Minister Mungantiwar emphasized that the law and Constitution would be upheld, emphasizing, “Whether it is an officer’s son or some big leader’s son, he will have to bear the whip of the law and Constitution. No matter who it is, if they have committed this crime, then they would be punished.”

The incident, confirmed by the police, involved Priya Singh, who stated that her relationship with the accused, the son of a senior bureaucrat, lasted for four and a half years. Singh alleged that upon discovering the accused with his wife despite his claims of separation, an argument ensued, resulting in the attempted assault.

Singh, narrating her ordeal to news agency ANI, expressed shock upon discovering the accused’s marital status and recounted the aggressive confrontation that led to her sustaining severe injuries, including multiple broken bones and deep wounds.

The police reported that the incident occurred on December 11 around 4:30 am near a hotel on Ghodbunder Road, where Singh had gone to meet the accused. An altercation ensued, leading to the attempted vehicular assault as Singh collected her belongings and attempted to leave.

Significantly, Singh’s decision to share her plight on social media prompted action from authorities after her initial attempt to file an FIR yielded no immediate response. The police have since begun investigations into the matter following her social media post, underscoring the impact of public exposure in expediting justice.

The case has drawn attention to the urgency of addressing incidents of violence against women and the need for swift and impartial action, irrespective of the accused’s influential backgrounds. The minister’s commitment to ensuring justice underscores the gravity of the situation and the imperative to uphold the law without bias or favoritism.
