The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to grant urgent hearing on a plea seeking postponement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 amid the ongoing global scare due to rise in coronavirus cases.
A Vacation Bench of Justices U.U. Lalit and Aniruddha Bose told the petitioner that the plea could be mentioned for urgent listing before the regular bench after the court reopens on March 16.
The apex court had closed for a week on Holi.
Advocate Mohan Babu Agarwal moved this plea in the apex court. The top court said that this is not a matter which cannot wait till the opening of the court. “You can mention this matter before the regular bench on March 16,” said the court.
Agarwal contended before the bench that IPL-2020 is slated to begin from March 29. Yet, there have been no communication on the safety measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus during the matches, as usually people in larger number gather to watch the matches.-IANS News
