Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Tuesday defended Congress Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the Lok Sabha yesterday, saying the issues raised were related to India’s national security. Raut emphasised that Gandhi was highlighting a critical moment when decisions on border defence should have been taken.

Speaking to the media, Raut said, “Rahul Gandhi ji tried to bring forth an issue related to national security. When a neighbouring country approaches your border with the intention to attack, then the political leadership must make a decision. At that time, General MM Naravane (Retd) was seeking orders on what to do, but our Prime Minister and Defence Minister avoided taking a clear call.”

The Shiv Sena MP expressed concern over the retired General’s personal safety now that the matter has become public. “I feel concerned about General MM Naravane’s security now that this issue has come up. The government will surely respond in some way, as it did in the case of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk. MM Naravane’s security should be increased immediately,” he said.
