Mumbai: In a major development in the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, Mumbai Police arrested the main accused from Thane today, January 20, 2025. The attacker has reportedly confessed to the crime, which occurred on January 16, 2025.

Addressing a press conference, DCP Zone 9 Dixit Gedam revealed that there is primary evidence indicating that the accused is a Bangladeshi national. According to the police, the accused, identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad (30 years old), entered India illegally and changed his name to Vijay Das after arriving in Mumbai about 5-6 months ago.

DCP Gedam mentioned, “There are some seizures that suggest the accused does not possess valid Indian documents. We have doubts about his nationality, and hence relevant sections of the Passport Act have been added to the case.” Police officials also found evidence such as scissors, indicating the potential origin of the suspect.

The attack occurred at the actor’s residence with the intention of theft, but it escalated into an assault. The accused worked for a housekeeping agency in the vicinity of Mumbai and had been living under the false identity of Vijay Das. He had been staying in Mumbai for the past few days before the incident took place.

Mumbai Police will present the accused in court and will request police custody for further investigation. The police are continuing their inquiries into the matter and exploring links to his possible Bangladeshi origin.
