Mumbai: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is undergoing surgery after sustaining multiple stab wounds during a robbery attempt at his residence in Mumbai’s Bandra area. The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, January 16, when an unidentified intruder attacked the actor at his home.
According to a statement from Lilavati Hospital, where Saif is receiving treatment, the actor sustained six injuries, two of which are severe. One of the injuries is dangerously close to his spine. “Two of the injuries are deeper, and one is near his spine. We are operating on him,” said Dr. Niraj Uttamani, the COO of Lilavati Hospital.
The actor was rushed to the hospital at 3:30 AM, and his surgery began at 5:30 AM. A medical team led by neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Leena Jain, and anaesthesiologist Dr. Nisha Gandhi is overseeing his treatment.
In a statement released by the hospital, it was confirmed that Saif’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and other family members are by his side at the hospital. “There was an attempted burglary at Mr. Saif Ali Khan’s residence. He is currently undergoing surgery. We request the media and fans to be patient. It is a police matter, and we will keep you updated,” the family said.
Reports indicate that the attack occurred when the intruder attempted to break into the Satguru Sharan building where Saif and Kareena reside. The actor’s staff confronted the intruder, leading to a scuffle in which Saif intervened. During the altercation, he was stabbed multiple times by the assailant.
At the time of the incident, Kareena Kapoor was reportedly not at home. The police are currently investigating the matter, and authorities have not yet identified the intruder.
