Delhi: In a statement that stirred discussion, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat declared that India is inherently a Hindu nation, emphasizing that no constitutional amendment is needed to affirm this identity. Speaking at a conference in Kolkata, Bhagwat highlighted that India’s cultural heritage and reverence for ancestors already reflect the nation’s Hindu character.

He drew a simple analogy, saying, “The sun rises in the east; do we need approval for that too? Similarly, Hindustan is a Hindu nation.” According to Bhagwat, anyone who respects Indian culture and honors the legacy of their ancestors contributes to the country’s Hindu identity.

Bhagwat clarified that the RSS does not pursue political agendas and criticized misconceptions about the organization. He said, “Some people spread anti-India and anti-Sangh propaganda out of fear of the rise of Hinduism. Opinions about RSS should be based on facts, not narratives.”

Addressing questions about parliamentary approval, the RSS chief stated that the organization does not depend on any legal amendment to define India as a Hindu nation. He added that the caste system based on birth is not part of the ideology of Hindutva.

Bhagwat also encouraged citizens to embrace their mother tongue in daily life, suggesting that Bengali speakers use “Swagatam” instead of “Welcome” at their homes.
