Western Railway’s RPF arrested a resident of Virar for providing fake ID cards to commuters to travel in Mumbai local train.

The railway police officials traced the accused on the basis of a message circulated on Telegram app. “RPF played a crucial role in the arrest of a person involved in giving fake ID cards to people for travelling in local trains. Western Railway’s RPF provided preliminary information regarding phone number and Telegram message by accused and filed complaint in Vasai Road police station against him for making fake ID cards for travelling in local trains,” Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer of WR said.

A case was filed against the Virar resident under Section 420, 465 and 468 of the Indian Penal Code. “Based on the same information, the accused who is a resident of Virar, was arrested on January 11, 2021. A case was filed against him under Section 420, 465, and 468 of the Indian Penal Code,” Thakur added.

At present, only essential workers and those approved by the government are allowed to travel in local trains. Women, too, have permission, but only during non-peak hours.
