Srinagar: In a significant step towards empowering youth and women in the remote border region of Karnah, the Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, with the support of the Indian Army, inaugurated two vital facilities on Monday—a Computer Lab at Madrasa Shah Hamdan, Tangdar, and a Skill Development Centre at Madrasa Roza Tul Salihat, Baghbella.

The inaugural ceremony of the computer lab at Madrasa Shah Hamdan was attended by renowned artist and social activist Rouble Nagi, Indian Army officials, community elders, and members of civil society. Addressing the gathering, Rouble Nagi emphasized the importance of digital literacy in today’s world.

Today marks a new beginning for the children of Madrasa Shah Hamdan. The world is moving digitally, and it is our duty to ensure that students in border areas are not left behind,” she said.

The newly inaugurated lab is equipped with modern computers and essential educational software aimed at imparting basic computer literacy, typing skills, internet usage, and access to digital learning resources.

Mufti Atta Ur Rehman, a senior teacher at the madrasa, expressed his gratitude

This has been a long-cherished dream. The computer lab will open up new horizons for our children. We are deeply thankful to Rouble Madam and the Indian Army for making this possible.

Meanwhile, in Baghbella, a Skill Development Centre was inaugurated at Madrasa Roza Tul Salihat, providing 10 sewing machines and training resources to help girls and women learn tailoring and stitching skills. The initiative is aimed at promoting self-reliance and generating sustainable livelihoods for local women.

Teachers and students expressed their appreciation for the initiative, highlighting its long-term impact.

This will help our students acquire skills that can support them throughout their lives,” said one of the teachers.

Local community leaders welcomed both projects, describing them as critical in bridging educational and economic gaps in border villages.

The Rouble Nagi Art Foundation has been working across India in the fields of art-based education, women empowerment, sanitation, and community development. In Jammu and Kashmir, the Foundation has launched several initiatives including wall art campaigns, vocational centres, and digital literacy projects to uplift underserved communities.

With the support of the Indian Army, these new facilities in Tangdar and Baghbella represent a meaningful step toward integrating digital and vocational education into traditional learning spaces, fostering a brighter and more empowered future for the region’s youth and women.
