The simmering tensions within the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have escalated further after MLA Rohit Pawar, from the Sharad Pawar camp, fired a salvo at Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar over his recent statement hinting at the provision of funds during a campaign speech.

The controversy erupted when Ajit Pawar, while addressing a rally in Indapur, indirectly warned voters, stating, “We are giving you funds. Press the buttons of the EVM machine, otherwise we will also have to take action.”

Rohit Pawar, the grandnephew of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, took to Twitter to question Ajit Pawar’s remarks and sought clarification from the Election Commission. In his tweet, he mentioned, “It has come to light that Ajit Dada (Ajit Pawar) made a statement regarding funds while speaking at a meeting. What funds is Dada talking about? The funds with their friends who are members of the ‘Malida’ gang or the government development funds?”

Alleging a violation of the code of conduct, Rohit Pawar stated, “As the people are not supporting, it is a violation of the code of conduct to threaten funds now! The Election Commission should take serious note of this!”

This public rebuke from within the NCP ranks has once again highlighted the deepening rift between the factions led by Sharad Pawar and his nephew Ajit Pawar. The latter has been facing criticism from within the party for his decision to join hands with the BJP in 2019, leading to a brief tenure as the Deputy Chief Minister.

Political analysts suggest that the Sharad Pawar group may adopt an aggressive stance against Ajit Pawar, especially as the NCP gears up for crucial elections in the coming months. The party’s internal dynamics could potentially impact its electoral fortunes and the broader political landscape in Maharashtra.

As the war of words escalates, all eyes are on the Election Commission’s response to the allegations of code violations and the NCP’s ability to contain the infighting within its ranks.
