Residents of Navi Mumbai are grappling with a severe power crisis as a technical failure at the Kalwa substation of Mahavitran has resulted in an extended power outage across several areas, including Airoli, Ghansoli, Koparkhairane, and Vashi. The prolonged power cut has compounded the woes of citizens already battling the scorching summer heat.
According to reports, the power supply has been disrupted for several hours, leaving residents without electricity for essential household needs and appliances. The situation has been exacerbated by the high demand for electricity in the region, with a staggering deficit of 750 megawatts.
Authorities have attributed the outage to a breakdown in the demand and supply mathematics, with the surge in electricity demand outstripping the available supply. The Thane and Navi Mumbai regions currently have a combined electricity demand of 4000 MW, but the supply falls short of meeting this requirement.
While Mahavitran, the state electricity distribution company, has assured that power supply will be restored within the next half an hour, the prolonged outage has left residents frustrated and struggling to cope with the sweltering temperatures.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for robust infrastructure and efficient power management systems to meet the growing energy demands of rapidly urbanizing areas like Navi Mumbai. Residents and civic authorities alike are urging for immediate action to address the crisis and ensure uninterrupted power supply, especially during the peak summer months.
As the scorching heat continues to grip the region, the timely restoration of power remains a top priority to alleviate the distress faced by the citizens of Navi Mumbai.
