Bhuj: In a sharp rebuke to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday criticised the global financial body for approving a $2.1 billion bailout package to Pakistan, calling it an “indirect endorsement of terrorism.”

Addressing Indian Air Force personnel at the Bhuj airbase in Gujarat, Singh stated, “The IMF’s aid to Pakistan is a form of indirect funding to terror. Any financial assistance to Pakistan is actually terror funding. The IMF should reconsider its decision.”

Singh’s remarks come amid heightened tensions following Operation Sindoor, a major retaliatory strike by Indian armed forces that targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The operation was conducted in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed multiple lives.

Highlighting the growing concern in India over global financial institutions allegedly ignoring Pakistan’s track record of harbouring terror, Singh said, “Pakistan has used international funds in the past to shelter and train terror groups. This bailout only strengthens those forces that support cross-border terrorism.”

During his address, the Defence Minister lauded the Indian Air Force personnel stationed at Bhuj for their swift response during Pakistan’s retaliatory strike following Operation Sindoor. The Bhuj base was among the Indian military sites targeted, but all incoming missiles and drones were successfully intercepted by India’s advanced multi-layered air defence system.

“You made the country proud. Just 23 minutes were enough for our forces to crush the terror launchpads nurtured in Pakistan,” Singh said, commending the armed forces’ precision and preparedness.
