Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid a visit to the residence of BSP MP Danish Ali in the national capital on Friday evening, extending his support and solidarity. This meeting comes on the heels of an incident in which Danish Ali faced verbal abuse and anti-Muslim slurs from BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri in the Lok Sabha.

Pictures and videos capturing Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with Danish Ali were widely shared on Twitter by various users. Notably, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), led by Mayawati, is not a part of the INDIA alliance led by the Congress.

Addressing reporters following his meeting with Danish Ali, Rahul Gandhi quoted a line from his Bharat Jodo Yatra, saying, “Nafrat ke Bazaar mein Mohabbat ki Dukan (In the marketplace of hatred, let’s open a shop of love.)”

Danish Ali, speaking to the media after his meeting with Rahul Gandhi, revealed that the Congress leader had come to offer his support in the aftermath of Thursday’s incident.

“He came here to keep my morale high and to extend his support… He said that I am not alone and everyone who is standing with democracy is standing with me,” stated the BSP MP.

The incident that prompted this meeting occurred when BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri used highly objectionable language, including words such as “pimp,” “terrorist,” and “extremist,” directed at BSP MP Danish Ali during a parliamentary session in the Lok Sabha.

In response to the outrage over Bidhuri’s comments, the BJP issued a show-cause notice to the offending MP. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed regret over the derogatory comments made by Bidhuri in the Lok Sabha during a discussion on Chandrayaan-3. However, as video clips of the incident circulated on social media, Bidhuri faced intense criticism for his abusive and insulting remarks against a fellow parliamentarian.

Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Danish Ali’s residence underscores the importance of unity and support in the face of divisive rhetoric, and it serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for civil and respectful discourse within India’s political arena.
