In the lead-up to the highly anticipated Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi, just over a month after the Congress party’s setback in the Assembly elections across three heartland states, is set to embark on the “Manipur to Mumbai Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.” This journey kicks off from Thoubal near Imphal, Manipur, on Sunday.

Despite the Congress stating that it’s not a poll yatra, the strategic selection of Lok Sabha constituencies along Rahul’s Yatra 2.0 route suggests a focused emphasis on the Hindi regions. In particular, the Yatra will traverse 28 Lok Sabha segments in Uttar Pradesh, covering key constituencies like Varanasi, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Allahabad, Phulpur, and Lucknow, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Varanasi constituency.

Beyond Uttar Pradesh, the Yatra will navigate through various states, including Maharashtra, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. The route is strategically designed to encompass constituencies where the Congress still maintains a considerable presence or is in contention.

In Maharashtra, the Yatra will traverse strongholds of both the Congress and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction, reflecting hopes that the alliance can make a significant impact in the upcoming polls.

The Yatra will cut through 10 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, including Cooch Behar, Alipurduars, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Malda Uttar, Malda Dakshin, Jangipur, Murshidabad, Baharampur, and Birbhum, amid ongoing seat-sharing discussions with the Trinamool Congress.

With a primary focus on the heartland, where the Congress has historical significance, the Yatra will also include a special emphasis on Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) seats. In total, it will pass through 30 reserved seats, including 13 SC and 17 ST seats, spread across several states.

The Yatra’s trajectory covers key constituencies in Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and more, touching upon seats where the Congress aims to strengthen its presence.

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is slated to traverse an extensive 6,713 km, utilizing buses and foot travel, covering 15 states, 110 districts, 337 Assembly segments, and 100 Lok Sabha seats over a span of 67 days. The journey will be inaugurated from a private ground in Manipur’s Thoubal district, with Rahul Gandhi paying homage to martyrs at the Khongjom war memorial before setting out on this extensive political expedition.
